You can:

Ask a neighbor to look after your home. This includes clearing snow, picking up mail, putting your garbage out on garbage day, and putting the empty bins away.
Turn off the water, ensuring pipes do not freeze. This can happen more often than you think, especially when your furnace is turned down.
Lock every door, including garage doors, and lock every window. Even in winter, some windows remain unlocked.
